Music of the Living Landscape

  • Center for Regenerative Agriculture at Jalama Canyon Ranch 3635 Jalama Road Lompoc, CA, 93436 United States (map)

We’re excited to invite you to a one-of-a-kind, immersive concert at Jalama Canyon Ranch, where the landscape itself becomes the instrument.

Saturday, May 23 | 4-7pm | Jalama Canyon Ranch

This intimate, progressive experience unfolds across the ranch through three live performances by our Spring 2026 Artist-in-Residence, Nathan Sherwood Liang, accompanied by orchestral musicians and paired with seasonal bites by Barbareño and curated wines by Sandhi.

This event supports the Artist-in-Residence program and our ongoing work to integrate art, ecology, and community. Only 75 tickets are available. This event will sell out.

Performing Artists

Nathan Sherwood Liang

Composer and Instrumentalist

Nathan Sherwood Liang is a San Francisco–based composer who collects sounds from the living landscape — birdsong, flowing water, windswept grass — and composes original music using those recordings, tones created from ecological data, and orchestral instruments to create immersive sonic experiences. From April 15 through May 26, 2026, Nathan will live and work on the land at Jalama Canyon Ranch, letting the ranch itself shape the music.

"My goal with this residency is to tap into the resonances of Jalama Canyon Ranch, and to let the audience hear the land as it might hear itself."

— Nathan Sherwood Liang

Through research-driven composition and interdisciplinary collaborations with musicians, artists, scientists, and filmmakers, Nathan’s music translates scientific concepts and natural systems into immersive sonic experiences. His recent works include Those Who Favor Fire (2025), Green, green (2025), and Species for Harp and Piano (2024).

Jane Hahn

Jane Hahn, singer and flutist, grew up in Santa Barbara, and has studied and performed as a singer and a flutist her whole life. Jane studied flute at the college level at UCSB, and continues to practice and perform as a freelance musician today, lately branching out into the Jazz genre.
