A REGION TAKES ROOT.
The hills are still golden. Beneath them, roots hold the soil in place, beginning to receive water.
As we look toward the heavier rains ahead, the health of the land will shape what comes next: whether water slows and sinks into the soil or rushes across hillsides, carrying precious soil downstream.
Help us build on five years of progress at Jalama Canyon Ranch and bring ecosystem restoration through regenerative agriculture to more of the landscapes that sustain our region.
The first rain has fallen. Help us grow what comes next.
Through December 31, 2026, gifts to this appeal will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $50,000 in total matching support, thanks to a dedicated group of supporters.
Together, your gifts and matching funds can help us reach our $100,000 goal to support continued stewardship at Jalama Canyon Ranch, education for farmers and ranchers, and the next chapter of regional watershed restoration.
Your generosity goes twice as far.
Five years of growing roots.
When White Buffalo Land Trust began stewarding Jalama Canyon Ranch in 2021, we set out to transform this working landscape into a living demonstration of regenerative agriculture.
Across 1,000 acres of grasslands, oak woodlands, creek corridors, vineyards, and orchards, we have been restoring watershed function, building healthier soils, supporting native habitat, and demonstrating how productive agriculture can thrive in relationship with the natural systems that sustain us.
Today, the ranch is also a living classroom, a place for research and discovery, and a gathering ground for a growing community committed to ecosystem restoration through regenerative agriculture.
That commitment has deep roots and its reach already extends far beyond the ranch.
Have gained regenerative knowledge through our education and training programs.
More than 450 farmers and ranchers
Over half a million acres of land
Are collectively stewarded by those farmers and ranchers.
Each project has taught us something. Each relationship has extended our reach.
What began as a commitment to one place has grown into a vision for an entire region.
Water moves across hillsides and pastures, through farms and ranches, into creeks and onward to the ocean. The health of one landscape is inseparable from the health of those around it.
A Region Takes Root is our next five year chapter: bringing the lessons, relationships, and regenerative approaches developed at Jalama Canyon Ranch to the landscapes and communities that surround us.
We envision healthier creek corridors and oak woodlands. More rainfall sinking into living soil. Productive farms and ranches better prepared for dry years and heavy storms.
We cannot control when the next downpour comes. But we can change how the land receives it.
Rain doesn’t stop at a fence line. Neither should restoration.
The Five Year Vision - A Region Takes Root
Putting shared knowledge to work across our region.
In 2027, White Buffalo Land Trust will begin a regional watershed restoration effort that advances our five year vision, A Region Takes Root.
We’ll work alongside farmers, ranchers, landowners, and partners to develop projects that improve soil health and water retention, restore creek corridors, and care for oak woodlands, all in support of productive, resilient agricultural land.
That work begins with listening, understanding each landscape, and connecting the people and resources needed to move projects from possibility to action.
Your gift helps us bring this work to more agricultural landscapes while continuing to invest in Jalama Canyon Ranch as a place where we practice, learn, and teach.
The farms and ranches that nourish our communities depend on healthy soil and water. Regenerative agriculture helps restore these foundations while keeping working lands productive.
Helping rainfall soak into the soil, supporting native habitat, and restoring watershed function are part of caring for the land’s ability to grow food and sustain agricultural livelihoods.
By helping producers integrate restoration into their operations, we can strengthen both the ecosystems they steward and the regional food system those landscapes sustain.
Restoring the land strengthens our food system.

Gifts matched dollar for dollar through December 31, while funds remain, up to the $50,000 match cap.
As more rain reaches these hills, the soil will drink and new green will emerge a reminder of the land’s extraordinary capacity to renew itself when given the chance.
The work we do today will help shape how our landscapes respond to the coming rains and to the seasons and generations ahead.
Please join us in caring for the land that feeds us.
